[Best Ads of 2020: Burger King]
We can conclude that 2020 has been the worst year for food industries, with businesses mostly forced shutdowns by the impact of the pandemic and the unclear future for them. In France, due to government policy to reduce the corona case numbers and the new wave of infection, most restaurants and bars are currently closed.
In order to support the food industry, Burger King France’s new campaign has turned their Instagram into a channel to free-advertise restaurants. The campaign aims to support restaurant owners who need it more and shows Burger King’s choice of restaurant, telling their address, menu, and any promotion. Restaurant owners are able to participate by simply post a photo of their signature dish with a hashtag of #WhopperAndFriends and soon Burger King will repost it on their social media.
As we know, Burger King has its own history of joking their competitor, Mcdonalds, in every ad. But not in 2020, Burger King set aside the rivalry with their marketing campaign last month that supports Mcdonalds, KFC, Subway, and all of its rivals by an Instagram post asking to order from them. “We never thought we’d be asking you to do this. But restaurants employing thousands of staff really need your support in the moment” It was honored in Adweek for The Best Ads of 2020.
