[KOPIKO: Going global through K-dramas]
With an average nationwide rating of 10.3 percent, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha becoming one of the current most popular Korean dramas on the air, and it’s not hard to see why. Recent discoveries revealed that a major sponsor of the Korean show was an Indonesian candy company, Kopiko.
The Indonesian candy company Kopiko appears to be a huge supporter of the genre (K-dramas). Having previously sponsored the Korean drama Vincenzo and Mine, the coffee-flavored candy is now a sponsor of the latest Korean drama, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha.
Kopiko has been a part of Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha since the first episode, although not many people are aware of it. On Saturday (4/9/2021), when the third episode aired, its appearance caused a stir among drama fans in the country and became a Twitter trend.
Internet users assume that Kopiko spent a lot of money to fund the Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha drama, too. Some K-drama fans even admitted that Kopiko’s presence made them even more curious to watch Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha. In addition, many people wonder whether this candy is consumed by the main stars; Kim Seon-ho and Shin Min-a, so they always look forward to the latest episode of Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha itself.
